Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore organised a “Mass awareness program on culture based fisheries for sustainable development” at Chitradurga district in Karnataka

As part of celebration of Bharat Ki Azadi Ka AmrutMohotsav, Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore organised a “Mass awareness program on culture based fisheries for sustainable development” on 4th August 2021 at Kariyala village, Chitradurga district, Karnataka under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. The program was attended by about 40 fisher folks who are engaged in fisheries activities at Gayatri reservoir in Chitradurga District. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist and Head of the Centre welcomed the fishers and briefed to them about the enhancement strategies for increasing fish production from the small reservoir. Dr. Ajoy Saha, Scientist spoke about the importance of water quality management for enhanced fish production in small reservoirs. Dr. Vijaykumar M.E., Technical Officer explained about the importance of culture based fisheries for livelihood improvement of fisherman community.The farmers also interacted on the various issues like parasitic infestation on fishes, fluctuations in reservoir water levels as the area is under continuous drought for several years. The programme was successfully organised by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist , Dr. Ajoy Saha (Scientist) and Dr. Vijaykumar ME, Technical Officer.
