ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, celebrating its 75th year of the establishment along with India’s 75th years of Independence as ‘Bharat Ke Amrut Mahotsav’ program. To commemorate this momentous milestone, ICAR-CIFRI ranched 5 lakhs of wild fish germplasm of IMC Rohu, Catla and Mrigal (Labeo rohita, Labeo catla and Cirrhinus mrigala) in different stretches of river Ganga. As a part of the mass awareness campaign, significance regarding the conservation of Gangetic fishes including prized Hilsa was highlighted to the fishermen. The awareness campaign also embraced the critically endangered Gangetic Dolphin species so as to ensure its healthy population in the river system.
