CIFRI Awards
ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura conducted an awareness programme on Cage culture for enhanced fish production from Dumbur reservoir of Tripura\'94 on 07.09.2021 in Gandacherra, Dhalai district of Tripura. The average fish production from the reservoir is about 120 kg/ha/y (2001-2020), which is less than the potential production. The main objective of this awareness programme was to enhance fish production from the reservoir by applying scientific approaches such as stock enhancement and cage culture. ICAR-CIFRI initiated experimental culture of common carp Cyprinus carpio in the reservoir to validate the cage culture technology in the region under the guidance of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore & Project Coordinator-NEH Component. Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya, Head, ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati & Principal Investigator of NEH coordinated the programme from Guwahati. Shri D. K. Chakma, TCS, Director, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Tripura provided valuable support to ICAR-CIFRI to carry out ongoing activities including cage culture in Dumbur reservoir. In the technical session, Dr. Shyamal Chandra Sukla Das, Scientist and Mr. Bipul Chandra Ray, ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati; Shri Nanda Gopal Noatia, DDF (C & D, Nodal Officer), Directorate of Fisheries; Shri Madan Tripura, SF, Jatanbari/ Gandacheera; Dr. Chandan Debnath, Scientist, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra; Shri Rantadeep Saha and Shyam Sundar Das, Fishery Officers, Gandacherra took active part in the programme. A total of 50 fishers and officials participated in the awareness programme.
