ICAR-CIFRI Guwahati celebrated International Year of Millets and Tree Plantation at Ghorajan beel, Kamrup, Assam on 17.09.21
ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre, Guwahati organized a field programme on the occasion of International Year of Millets and Tree Plantation at Ghorajan beel, Kamrup, Assam with active support from officials and fishers of Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd. (AFDC), Guwahati and Trimurti multipurpose farming cooperative society (TMFCS), North Guwahati on 17.09.21. During the programme, 25 plantlets of Assam lemon (Citrus limon) and litchi (Litchi chinensis) procured from the Horticultural Research Station, Assam Agricultural University, Kahikuchi, Guwahati were planted in the banks of Ghorajan beel. To create awareness about the nutritive value of millets, jowar flour and multigrain biscuits were distributed among the participants. The programme was coordinated by Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Head, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati and Shri B. Adhikari, Assistant Executive Engineer, AFDC Ltd., Guwahati under the overall guidance from Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. Dr. D. Debnath, Sr. Scientist, Dr. S. Borah, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati assisted in organizing the programme. Shri Lohit Deuri of TMFCS actively participated in the programme. Other participants were Deep Kumar Medhi, Krishna Das, Runa Laskar, Priyanka Bora, Nayanman Das, Anjan Sarma, Jyotirmoy Doley from AFDC Ltd and few fishers of Ghorajan beel.
