ICAR-CIFRI organized stakeholder’s meeting for sustainable management of fisheries under Scheduled Tribe Component @ Bharat Ka Amrut mahotsav
ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI) organized a stakeholder’s meeting on 22nd September, 2021 in both online and offline mode for the sustainable management of fisheries in different corners of the country under STC as a part of Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss with the stakeholders regarding the prospects and benefits under STC for their greater involvement in their fisheries activities to harness maximum productivity as well as profitability. In this meeting, the stakeholders were from vulnerable Tribal communities who have been supported with various fisheries inputs like fish seed, feed, lime, net, coracle, pen, boat etc. from time to time in different selected areas of the country by CIFRI under STC programme. The institute is working consistently to improve the core competency of the tribal populace to achieve Honorable Prime minister’s Flagship programme of ‘doubling farmer’s’ income and ‘per drop more crop’ in participatory mode.
A total of 76 nos. of stakeholders ( 57 women and 19 male) from various states namely West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gujarat, Kerala etc. were present in the meeting both online and offline. An interactive session was conducted between the stakeholders and the scientists of the institute where they discussed about their experience and accordingly planning for the future activities. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, in his presidential address, he encouraged all the stakeholders to come forward more actively with the support from CIFRI for improving their fisheries activities to ensure their livelihood security in a sustainable way. Dr. Das also affirmed that CIFRI would continue to extend its supporting hands to the tribal fishermen residing in the remote areas of the country under the STC in the coming days, but, at the same time, he also requested the beneficiaries to try to become self-reliant so that the dream of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modiji for “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” could be achieved.
In this meeting, Dr. S. Samanta, HoD, REF Division, Dr. M.A. Hassan, HoD, FEM Division, Dr. U. K. Sarkar, HoD, RWF Division, Dr. A. K. Das, PS and In-charge, Training & Extension Unit, Dr. Aparna Roy,Sr. Scientist , Dr. Lianthuamluaia and Dr. N. Chanu, Scientist were present from CIFRI HQ in offline mode whereas Dr. Preetha Pannikar, PS and HoRC (In-Charge), Bengaluru, Dr. D. N. Jha, Sr. Scientist & HoRC(In-Charge), Prayagraj, Allahabad, Dr. Deepa Sudhesan, Scientist & Officer-in-Charge, Kochi Centre, Dr. Lohith Kumar, Scientist, Vadodara Centre were present through virtual mode. Besides, women beneficiaries from Sriniketan, Birbhum district of West Bengal and beneficiaries from Sagar Island, Gosaba and Palot Ghat of Sundarban, West Bengal told about their success in achieving greater production and profit from their fisheries activities and they gave this credit to the CIFRI for their continuous and effective support.
