Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR interacted with Women SC fish farmers at ICAR-CIFRI

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR interacted with 39 women SC fish farmers of Maldah district of West Bengal on the ongoing training programme started from 4th October 2021 during his visit to ICAR-CIFRI. He advised similar types of more no of training programme could be arranged in collaboration with KVKs for skill development of inland fish framers for increasing fish production and doubling farmers income. Dr. Joykrushna Jena, DDG (Fisheries Science) was also present in the meeting. Prior to this, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI inaugurated the five days training programme on “Inland Fisheries Management” on 4th October 2021 at Barrackpore under SCSP in collaboration with CHIS-KVK, Maldah. A total of 39 women of vulnerable community from Maldah district, West Bengal participated in the training program. The training was conducted based on the need of the fishers to develop their capacity on sustainable fisheries management practices to enhance the fishery production from inland water bodies. Dr. Das encouraged the trainees to develop their knowledge and skills on inland fisheries management and to implement the skills to generate employment for livelihood security. In this training programme the trainees were taught on various aspect of fish farming such as pond preparation, water quality management, induced breeding techniques, composite fish culture, nursery and rearing pond management, polyculture of fish with SIF, fish disease management, feed preparation and ornamental fish culture techniques. The trainees were also had a hands-on session on water quality analysis. A field exposure visit was also organized for the women trainees to East Kolkata wetland for an overall orientation regarding culture system in inland waters. About, 91% of the trainees were highly satisfied about the training programme and they were motivated to adopt scientific package of practices of inland fisheries management. The program was coordinated by Dr. P. K. Parida, Dr. Aparna Roy, Dr. Lianthuamluaia and Ms. Prajna R. Swain.
