Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore organized a mass awareness program under “National Campaign” on “Anti-microbial Resistance in Fish” at Vanivilas sagar reservoir, Chitradurga District, Karnataka on 23rd November, 2021
A mass awareness program was organized under the “National Campaign” on “Anti-microbial resistance in Fish” by the Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore on 23rd November 2021, at Vanivilas sagar reservoir, Chitradurga District, Karnataka under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist and Head, Dr. Ajoy Saha, Scientist and Dr. Vijaykumar M.E, Technical Officer of the Regional Centre. The main objective of the program is to sensitize the inland fish farmers and fishers on the “Antimicrobial Resistance in Culture-based Fisheries”. The program was attended by 52 fishermen from Vanivilas sagar and Gayathri reservoirs in Chitradurga district. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist and Head briefed the importance of this awareness program and emphasized on the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance to fish health with the use of audio-visual aids. Dr. Vijaykumar M.E., Technical Officer gave a detailed presentation on the major diseases of fishes, use of antibiotics, the specific issues. Mr. Srinivas D. S., Sr. Asst Director of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Karnataka presented the specific issues prevalent in the state of Karnataka. The participants interacted very enthusiastically during the session. The office bearers of the Cooperative societies appreciated the efforts made by ICAR-CIFRI in organizing the program.
