ICAR-CIFRI organized a training programme on "Inland Fisheries Management" for fishers of Nawada District, Bihar
A training program on “Inland Fisheries management” has been organized by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore and a total of 29 fishers from Nawada district, Bihar has participated in this training programme during 17- 23 November, 2021. The training was conducted to appraise and improve the management strategy for enhancement of fish yield in a sustainable way in inland waters. In the inaugural session, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed the participants, interacted with them and encouraged them to develop the knowledge and skills of inland fisheries management to generate employment and livelihood security. Dr. Das briefed the fishers about the new entrepreneurship avenues available in inland fisheries of India. In this one-week long training program, major emphasis was given on various topics of fish rearing such as pond construction and preparation, water quality management, induced breeding techniques, composite fish culture, nursery and rearing pond management, polyculture of fish with SIF, fish disease management, feed preparation and ornamental fish culture techniques. Practical classes of water quality analysis and fish feed preparation as well as field exposure of trainees to culture systems at East Kolkata Wetlands and the pen culture systems installed at Kholsi beel were also conducted. The valedictory session was arranged on 23rd November, 2021 that was the final day of the training programme where Director, Dr. B. K. Das along with the special guest, Dr. B. P. Mohanty, ADG (Inland Fisheries), ICAR was present. About, 93% of the farmers, expressed high level of satisfaction for this training programme.
