Shri BisheswarTudu, Minister of State of Jalshakti and Tribal Affairsinaugurated CIFRI Pen culture cum reservoir fisheries enhancement program.

Shri Bisheswar Tudu, honourable Minister of State, Jalshakti and Tribal Affairs, Government of India inaugurated CIFRI Pen culture demonstration cum reservoir fisheries enhancement program at Balidiha, Mayurbhanj district Odisha on 11th December 2021.
In his welcome address, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed the honourable minister and briefed him about the activities carried out by ICAR-CIFRI in Odisha. He requested fishers of Balidiha dam to work together in participatory mode for the success of reservoir fisheries enhancementprogramme.
Honourable Minister in his speech stressed on the benefits of reservoir fisheries development programme to the local community. He emphasized that Department of Fisheries, govt of Odisha and the fishers should join hands with ICAR-CIFRI for holistic development of the reservoirs in Odisha and appreciated the ICAR-CIFRI’s efforts towards the social development of tribal community.
Shri Subrata Dash, District Fisheries Officer, Mayurbhanj district in his address briefed about the various Schemes of run by state government for fisheries development.
ICAR-CIFRI has been consistently working for up-scaling of the socio- economic condition of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribal community through SCSP/STCprogramme. Under this initiative, ICAR-CIFRI has adopted the Balidiha dam under STC program with an objective to enhance fish production from inland waterbodies of Mayurbhanj, Odisha. One CIFRI pen HDPE (0.1 ha) was installed in the reservoir and stocked with 30,000 IMC fingerlings. CIFRI cagegrow feed also provided to the beneficiaries for regular feeding of the fishes in the pen.
The program was also graced with many local NGO, local social workers.About 250 local people as well as fishermen attended the program and the event was organized by obeying COVID guidelines.The program was coordinated by Dr. H. S. Swain and Mr. M. H. Ramteke, scientist and Shri. K. Modal, technical assistant, ICAR-CIFRI in collaboration with Balidiha Suraksha Manch.
