ICAR-CIFRI observed World Wetland Day to ensure the Conservation and Sustainable use

World Wetlands Day was fervently observed by ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore at, Borti beel, N24PGS. A total of 60 stakeholders took active part. The beel water is getting deteriorated by anthropogenic interventions with discharge industrial effluents, agricultural wastes etc. Dr B K Das, Director, CIFRI urged all the stake holders for wise-use of wetland towards societal benefits. Valuation of wetlands are immense, which should be relooked into for our sustenance of day to life and livelihood - Dr U K Sarkar, Head, RWF Division invoked while addressing the farmers thriving on this beel. So many issues have come out while interacting with the farmers as to how to rejuvenate this hyper-eutrophic beel befitting to their utilisation. We should not treat this system as our household dustbin –reiterated by Dr A. K. Das, In-charge, Training & Extension Unit of CIFRI while imbibing the womenfolk to come forward in maintaining the cleanliness of the beel catchment. The day was also solemnly observed at Gorjan-Bullutjan beel - a cluster of seven beels of Kamrup district, Assom by CIFRI Centre of Guwahati. Even the massage of World Wetlands Day was well percolated to the downtrodden people of Sundarbans by team CIFRI at Sundarban Kristi, Krishti O Sanskriti Mela, West Bengal.
