ICAR-CIFRI organized 3-days skilled development training programme on ‘Inland fisheries management’ at Borkona beel, Assam


ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Regional Centre, Guwahati organized a skilled development training programme on ‘Inland fisheries management’ for beel fishers during 16-18 February, 2022 at Borkona beel, Barpeta district, Assam. The training programme was sponsored by the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. A total of 50 fishers and farmers (including youth and women) of Barpeta district participated in the 3-day training programme. The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Head (Acting), ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati. Dr. Pronob Das and Dr. Simanku Borah, Scientists of the Centre acted as Organizing Secretary and Co-organizing Secretary of the programme.
Dr. Pronob Das, Organizing Secretary welcomed the guest and participants for the programme and explained the purpose of the 3-days programme. He also gives a brief overview about ICAR-CIFRI and its activity for development of the fisheries sector of the region.
During the 3-days training programme, different aspect of Inland fisheries viz., overview of inland fisheries, enclosure culture technologies for inland water bodies, fisheries enhancement options in openwaters, fish health management, relevance of fish nutrition and feed technology, significance of soil and water quality, role of biotic communities, management guidelines for beel fisheries, conservation of fisheries resources, technologies for inland aquaculture, etc. has been covered by Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Dr. Pronob Das and Dr. Simanku Borah. Dr. P. Barman, DFDO (I/c), Barpeta delivered a session on overview of PMMSY schemes for inland fisheries and urged the participants to take benefit of the govt. welfare schemes. He also briefly elaborated different activities carried out by department of fisheries in Assam. AFDC officials Mr. P. Talukdar, Mr. P. Mena, Mr. T. Deka, Mr. A. Baishya, Mr. M. Boro and Mrs. C. Devi participated in the programme and took part in the interaction with the participants.
During valedictory session, Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya urged the participants to adopt different scientific fish farming methods for better fish production and thereby increasing their income and livelihood. On behalf of the participants, Mr. B. Haloi of Borkona beel expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to ICAR-CIFRI for educating the fishers on different aspects of scientific fish farming. Dr. Simanku Borah, Co-organizing Secretary expressed his sincere thanks on behalf of the organizing committee to Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI for his overall guidance in conducting the training programme. He also thanked MANAGE, Hyderabad for sponsoring the programme and Department of Fisheries, Govt. of Assam including Assam Fisheries Development Corporation (AFDC) Ltd., Guwahati for their support in successfully organizing the 3-days training programme.
