Ranching of Etroplus suratensis in Vembanad lake, Kerala

Kochi Research Station of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (RS of ICAR-CIFRI) successfully ranched 2500 seeds of Pearl Spot, Etroplus suratensis in Vembanad lake at Mulavukadu Village, Ernakulam district, Kerala on 8th March 2022 under the NICRA project. Ranching programme was inaugurated by Shri.Ali Akbar, Mulavukadu Panchayat President, Ernakulam in the presence of CIFRI Kochi officer-in-charge.

The lake was ranched with Etroplus seeds (TL: 2cm; average weight: 2-3g) as a part of replenishment of the fishery in a climate changing scenario. The programme was attended by Dr. Thankam Theresa Paul, Shri. Manoharan, CTO and Mr. P.V. Shajil, SSS and Albin Albert C under the co-ordination of Dr. U.K. Sarkar, PI, NICRA. The programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. The programme was attended by fishermen stakeholders.
