CIFRI CAGEGROW feed distribution among wetland fishers of Dhemaji district, Assam

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute Regional Centre, Guwahati organized a feed distribution programme for the benefit of wetland fishers on 27th April, 2022 at Dhemaji district, Assam. The program was organized at Moridhal College, Dhemaji, Assam. A total of 5.25 tonnes of CIFRI CAGEGROW feed was distributed among 50 wetland fishers of the district. The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Head (Acting), ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati.Dr. Simanku Borah, Scientist of the Centre co-ordinated the programme. Shri Pradan Baruah, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur, and Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education and WPTBC Department, Govt. of Assam graced the feed distribution program. The program was also attended by Dr. Kamal Gogoi, Founder Principal (Retd.), Moridhal College, Dr. Dipen Saikia, Principal, Moridhal College, Mr. Lakhinath Lagachu, DFDO, Dhemaji, Mr. Pradip Boruah, Principal, Moridhal H.S. School, Mr. Dipankar Saikia, FDO, Mr. Ganesh Borah, FDO, Ms. Shilpa Rani Hazarika, FDO and Ms. Pratisha Handique, JE, DoF, Dhemaji.
Dr. Simanku Borah, welcomed the guest and participants for the programme and explained the purpose programme. He also gives a brief overview about ICAR-CIFRI and its activity for development of the fisheries sector of NE region. Different technologies developed by ICAR-CIFRI like cage culture, pen culture, CAGEGROW Feed were also highlighted in his address.
In his lecture, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur, Shri Pradan Baruah urged the people to adopt scientific fish farming practices and highlighted the role of fisheries in rural employment and livelihood. He appreciated the initiative taken by ICAR-CIFRI towards development of fisheries sector in Upper Assam region. Mr. Lakhinath Lagachu, DFDO, Dhemaji delivered a lecture on overview of PMMSY schemes for inland fisheries and urged the participants to take benefit of the govt. welfare schemes. He also briefly elaborated different activities carried out by Department of Fisheries in Assam. Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education and WPTBC Department, Govt. of Assam in address urged the fishers/fish farmers of the district to adopt scientific farming practices. He stated that there is an urgent need to achieve self-sufficiency in fish production in Dhemaji district of Assam, where a large chunk of fish demand is fulfilled through import. He also appreciated the feed distribution program of ICAR-CIFRI for fishers of Dhemaji district, Assam. Mr. Ganesh Borah, FDO, DoF, Dhemaji gave the formal vote of thanks.
