Brainstorming session on ‘Fish production statistics in the state of Meghalaya’ conducted by ICAR-CIFRI during 5-6 July, 2022

Scientists of ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute conducted a Brainstorming session on ‘Fish production statistics in the state of Meghalaya’ for fishery officials of the state during 5-6 July, 2022 at Directorate of Fisheries (DoF), Shillong, Meghalaya. The programme was conducted as per the request of DoF, Meghalaya. A total of 29 fishery officials of the state participated in the session. The programme was conducted under the overall guidance of Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya, Head, ICAR-CIFRI RC, Guwahati and Ms. A.L. Mawlong, MCS, Director of Fisheries, Meghalaya. Dr. A.K. Yadav, and Dr. S. Borah, Scientists of ICAR-CIFRI Guwahati Centre acted as resource persons in the brainstorming session .
Shri J.H. Suchiang, Deputy Director of Fisheries, DoF, Meghalaya welcomed the participants and explained the purpose of the brainstorming session. Dr. A.K. Yadav delivered a lecture on overview of existing data collection and reporting system from inland fisheries in India. He also discussed the simplified guidelines of ICAR-CIFRI for fish catch estimation methods from rivers, wetlands, lakes and reservoirs. Dr. S. Borah presented fish catch estimation methods for ponds and tanks. He also explained fisheries enhancement options for inland open water systems and technologies for inland aquaculture. Detailed deliberations on constraints in data collection from water bodies of the hilly state were made and accordingly measures were suggested to arrive at precise fish production estimates from water bodies of the state.
