Mass awareness programme was organised by ICAR-CIFRI on the occasion of National Fish Farmers Day

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Prayagraj has celebrated National Fish Farmers’ Day on the bank of Yamuna river at Kakraha ghat of Prayagraj on 10th July 2022. Dr Dharm Nath Jha, Head of Centre (in-charge) welcomed the guest and explained the importance of rivers and fishes in detail to the assembled audience. He also informed the audience about the work done by ICAR-CIFRI to conserve & restore important fishes and biodiversity of the Ganga river. Sri Rajesh Sharma, Convener, Ganga Vichar Manch of Namami Gange was the Chief Guest of the occasion.


He informed the people about different steps taken to keep Ganga-Yamuna clean and stressed for the role of common mass for this purpose. Programme was also addressed by special guest Shri Chaudhary Shailendra Nath Singh, Senior Socialworker, Sadiyapur, Prayagraj and he highlighted the importance of fishes for fishermen. He urged the people to keep Ganga-yamuna rivers pollution free which ultimately help in maintaining biodiversity of the river. Scientists of the institute Dr Venkatesh Thakur and Shri Shravan Kumar Sharma also explained the latest technologies related to fish and fisheries and different ways to conserve the rivers and fishes,


On this occasion official from Ganga Vichar Manch, fishers of nearby villages, fish traders and local people living on the bank of the Yamuna were present. The programme was also attended by other staffs of ICAR-CIFRI Prayagraj.
