This innovative concept was developed by Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Dr. A. K. Sahoo, PI and co-coordinator of the awareness programmes. It was realized that before distribution of chemicals to the fishers, scientific knowledge on use and mis-use of chemicals during fish farming should be known, so that at grass root level the degree of AMR would be minimized. During the entire awareness programme period, Dr. B.K.Das highlighted the role of antibiotics in the fish diseases particularly during the fish rearing period and ornamental fish rearing period. Dr. Das urged fishermen not to use the chemicals without scientific advises from the Fish expert. Dr. Das also highlighted one health approach towards combating AMR that has been taken up at the national and international level. Dr. A.K.Sahoo, PI of AMR Project highlighted the use and misuse of the chemicals in the aquaculture and major fish diseases.
Furthermore, Dr. Sahoo highlighted the factors responsible for AMR in Inalnd Open waters and the role of awareness for minimizing the AMR. More than 450 fishers including 345 women fishers from Tribal and SC communities were participated. Scientific inputs including leaflets, banners and posters in local languages were shown and distributed to the fishers for better understandings on AMR towards prevention and effective use of chemicals in fish farming.
