Till date more than 60 lakhs of fishes have been ranched under the part of CIFRI-NMCG project. In continuation of this, a ranching cum awareness programme was organized at Balagarh Ferry Ghat, Dist-Hooghly under the presence of Dr. Basanta Kumar Das, Director CIFRI and PI, NMCG project. A total of 1.15 Lakh artificially bred wild fish germplasm of Rohu, Catla and Mrigal seeds were released into the river at Balagarh in association with Sripur Balgarh Fishermen Cooperative Society.
The joint efforts of the society and CIFRI will develop in boosting of livelihood of the fishermen beside conservation of native fishes. Besides ranching, a meeting was also held between CIFRI and local fisher folks for upsclaing of Hilsa ranching and conservation in the area. In this present program, ctive participation was noticed among all the sections of the society.
Besides this, more than 30 number of woman fishers also took part in the event and were sensitized regarding Ganga rejuvenation and restoration of prized Gangetic fishes
