CIFRI Awards
ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) Barrackpore, Kolkata in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Government of West Bengal has initiated cage culture in Kangsabati Reservoir, Bankura district, West Bengal, which is first of its kind towards enhancing livelihood of tribal fishers of the district.
ICAR-CIFRI GI Cage battery was inaugurated on 16 May 2023 with releasing of fingerlings by Chief Guest Shri Biplob Roy Choudhury, Honorable Minister of Fisheries, Govt of West Bengal and Guest of Honour Smt Jyotsna Mandi Honorable Minister of State, Food and Supplies, Govt of West Bengal in presence of Sh. Avanindra Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Govt. of West Bengal, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and other dignitaries.
Smt Jyotsna Mandi, Honorable Minister of state, Food and Supplies, Govt of West Bengal urged the tribal fishers of the district to join hands to these historical ventures which would not only address their nutritional security but also provide livelihood support to them in a more pragmatic manner.
The programme was attended by 200 tribal fishers of the district besides, officials of Collectorate, Joint Director, Deputy Director and Assistant Director of fisheries Govt. of West Bengal with the visit of cage site by the dignitaries and stocking fish seeds in cages.
