CIFRI Awards
A capacity building programme on “Inland Fisheries Management” was organized for the officials of Chhattisgarh during 24-28 July,23 at CIFRI, HQ (Barrackpore). Twenty-one young officials including ten women officers attended the training programme.
Chhattishgarh is a landlock state and rich in natural resources. The open waterbodies like small and medium reservoir are major water resources of this state. The training need assessment of the trainees was done at first and based on their needs the training course curriculum was developed. The majority of the officers were of young age and very enthusiastic to learn the new techniques and protocols. During the training the officials were exposed to both practical and theoretical knowledge along with on field demonstration. Different topics were covered like Water quality analysis,
Riverine fisheries management, Reservoir fisheries management, Cultured-based fisheries, Fish feed and feeding protocols, Dissease management, Penculture, Page culture, GIS,Catch estimation, Governance pattern, Problem identification through PRA etc. Beside this the trainees were taken to the field exposure visit to East Kolkata Wetland and CIFE,Kolkata Centre.Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI also took an orientation class on “Small scale inland fisheries management”. The trainees interacted with him and various issues of inland open water fisheries were discussed. Dr. Das motivated the officials to work hard for the cause of up scaling the sector. Dr. Sikanta Samanta,HOD, FRI Division, Dr. R.K Manna,HOD,RWF Division took classes and interacted with the officials. A training manual was also given to the trainee officers as a ready reference. Feedback session of the training was also organized with a structure schedule.
On the valedictory session, the trainees shared their experience about the training. About 97% of the trainees expressed that they were highly satisfied with the training programme. Majority of them told that the training programme was very much fruitful for them as it has made improve in their knowledge, skill and attitude. The officials also told that the training situation at CIFRI was also very favourable. The training was coordinated by Dr. A.K Das, Dr. Aparna Roy, Ms. Anjana Ekka and Mr. Satish Koushlesh and technical assistance was provided by Shri Sujit Choudhury, Dr. Avishek Saha , Shri Manabendra Roy and Shri Koushik Mandal.
