ICAR-CIFRI organized a paid training programme on “Fisheries Enhancement in Open Waters of North-Eastern (NE) India”

A paid training programme on “Fisheries Enhancement in Open Waters of North-Eastern (NE) India” at the ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati from 26-29 September, 2023 under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Dr. S. K. Majhi, Head, ICAR-CIFRI, RC, Guwahati.

The programme was co-ordinated by Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Pr. Scientist and was assisted by Dr. P. Das, Sr. Scientist, Dr. S. Borah, Scientist and Ms. N. Sharma, Scientist (co- coordinators). A 12 participants (5 females and 7 males) attended the training program. The participants included the SFDO, DoF, Haflong; 5 fishery demonstrators from AFDC Ltd., Guwahati and DoF, Guwahati; 4 beel fishers from 46 Morakalong beel, Morigaon; Garjan Bulatjan beel, Kamrup (R) and Tamranga beel, Bongaigaon, Assam and 2 Executive of a reputed NGO working on fisheries HRD. During the inaugural session, Dr. S. K. Majhi, HRC spoke about recent works carried out by the Centre on fisheries enhancement in open waters of north-east India. He urged the participants to gain knowledge on the scientific management of open water bodies. Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Principal Scientist & co-ordinator of the programme explained the background and purpose of the training programme. During the 5 days HRD- focused program, several topics including the practical classes/demonstrations were conducted by the scientists and technical personal of the centre. The topics covered included salient concepts in fisheries enhancement, water & soil quality management, cage and pen culture, fish seed production, fish feed and nutrition, fish stock enhancement, importance of biotic communities, fish disease management, ornamental fish culture and record keeping for fisheries and aquaculture management.

In the valedictory session, Dr. B. K. Das, Director addressed the participants through online mode. He dwelt in length on the recent activities of the Institute on fisheries enhancement in open water fisheries of NE India. He also stressed on the importance of openwater fisheries in ensuring livelihood and nutritional security and congratulated for successful completion of the training programme. Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya, presented a brief report of the training programme. Dr. S. K. Majhi interacted with the participants and sought feedbacks from the participants for the training. The participants appreciated the training programme and wished to join more such training programme of ICAR-CIFRI in future. The programme ended with distribution of certificates and formal vote of thanks by Dr. P. Das, Sr. Scientist of the Centre.
