The program was conducted for the benefit of fish farmers and fishers of the district. Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes, Government of Assam graced the event as Chief Guest. Shri Pradan Baruah, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lakhimpur, Assam was the Guest of Honour. Shri Ankur Bharali, IAS, District Commissioner, Dhemaji, Shri Tulan Konwar, Chairman, Dhemaji Development Authority, Shri Lakhinath Lagachu, DFDO, Dhemaji were among the dignitaries.
Dr. S.K. Majhi in his address, welcomed all the dignitaries and fishers to the event. He promised his unwavering support for the development of fisheries sector of the district and the state. Shri Ankur Bharali, IAS, District Commissioner, Dhemaji, in his opening remarks emphasized on the development of fisheries sector of the district and appreciated the initiatives of ICAR-CIFRI. Shri Pradan Baruah, Hon’ble Member of Parliament also appreciated the activities of ICAR-CIFRI and stated that the district has enormous fisheries potential and there lies huge scope for rural development and employment.
He stated the need to focus on conservation and production of our indigenous fishes. Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes also appreciated the activities of ICAR-CIFRI and stated that the need to focus on scientific farming of indigenous fishes. He promised to collaborate with ICAR-CIFRI for the development of fisheries in the district. A total of 10 tonnes of fish feed developed and formulated CIFRI was distributed among 120 fishers of the district, who were present in the program. Dr. S. Borah, Scientist of ICAR-CIFRI Guwahati Centre expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to all the dignitaries, farmers for their presence and to Director, ICAR-CIFRI and Head, ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati for their guidance in successfully organizing the event.
