In the inaugural programme, Dr. Nitu Debnath, Assistant Professor, Cachar College, Silchar; Shri Himanshu Prakash Das, District Fishery Development Officer, Silchar, Cachar and Shri Nepal Roy, Assistant Engineer, AFDC Ltd., Silchar emphasized on importance of increasing fish production from beel fisheries, for which scientific training and capacity building is highly needed. In the technical session, Dr. D. Debnath briefed about CIFRI’s activities in open water fisheries management in India including cage and pen aquaculture technologies for beel fisheries enhancement. Dr. Shyamal C.S. Das, Organizing Secretary of the programme interacted and answered all queries raised by the participants. Shri Dibya Jyoti Dev Nath, Fishery Development Officer, Silchar, Cachar also answered queries raised by the participants on fish diseases. Shri Pranoy Sekhar Dutta, Beel Manager, AFDC Ltd., Silchar; Shri Sandip Misra, Fishery Demonstrator, Silchar, Cachar; Basir Ahmed Majumdar, President, Algapur Fishery Development Cooperative Soc. Ltd. and Rati Ranjan Das, Ex-Chairman, Sone beel Cooperative Society Ltd., Karimganj were also present in the programme. A total of 6000 kg CIFRI CageGrow floating fish feed was distributed among the participants on the occasion.
