A total of 19 participants including students, Research Scholars, Scientists, Asst. Professors, Asst. Director and Inspectors of Fisheries from Fisheries Institutes, Universities, Department of Fisheries of various state Government respectively. The program was attended by participants from the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka. The program started with the inaugural address by Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. He explained the various activities carried out by the Institute for improving the fish productivity from inland waterbodies. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Head of the Regional centre spoke on the present status of inland fisheries sector in India and delivered a talk on the role of reservoirs in enhancement of fisheries in the country.
During the training program, several topics dealing various aspects including the fishery enhancement practices, fishing technology, fish disease management and impact of climate change on the inland fisheries by the Scientists of Bangalore centre and Kochi unit of ICAR-CIFRI. Scientists from the Regional Research Centre of ICAR-CIFA, Bangalore delivered talks on different technology developed by the Institute in the seed production of endemic carps. The participants presented their feedback during the valedictory session. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sibina Mol S., Scientist.
