ICAR-CIFRI ORGANISED SHORT TERM TRAINING PROGRAMME ON “RECENT ADVANCES IN RIVER ECOLOGY AND FISHERIES MANAGEMENT”

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized a short-term training programme on “Recent advances in River ecology and fisheries management” from 07th to13th November 2023. The main objective of the training programme is on capacity building for teaching and research faculties, and students on the recent technological interventions towards sustainable river ecosystem and fisheries. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. B.K.Das Director, ICAR-CIFRI in the presence of Dr. S. Samanta, Head, FRAI, Dr. R.K.Manna, Head RWF, Dr. S.K.Manna, Head REF, Dr. M.A.Hassan, Head FEM, and Dr. A.K.Bera, Head, AEB Division. At the outset, Dr. A.K.Sahoo, Co-ordinator welcome all the delegates and briefed about the programme objectives. He said a total of 15 participants including teaching and research faculties and students from various Universities of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Andra Pradesh have participated.
Dr. B.K.Das, Director welcomed all the participants and said the programme should be more of interactive and practical. He advised for developing the group dynamics and developing conceptual models for the river basin management. Furthermore, he highlighted the concept of river ranching and conservation of river germplasm through advanced tools. Realizing the current stressors in river ecosystem, Dr. Das appreciated that the present training programme would help in transfer of scientific knowledge that ICAR-CIFRI has generated since 1947. He urged all participants to be more interactive and punctual. Dr. Das congratulated and wishes for successful completion of the programme. The training programme was co-ordinated Drs. A. K. Sahoo, S. K. Samanta, and Rosith C. M., Sangita Nair and Pranab Gogoi under the guidance of Dr. B.K.Das.
