In 1979, the ICAR Sport Scheme was introduced as a way to celebrate the organization's golden anniversary. Since then, it has been held at a number of institutes on a rotating basis. The ICAR organizes and systemsatizes its sports process through a variety of events held at the institute or headquarters. The athletes move on to the zonal level after winning at the institute level. One of the chosen institutes hosts the inter-zonal final tournament following a victory at the zonal level.
The ICAR-CIFRI sports contingent participated in an assortment of individual and team sports, such as racing, football, volleyball (smashing), volleyball (shooting), cricket, badminton (singles, double and mixed double), carom, chess, and others. In the 100-meter relay competition, which included Drs. Deepa Sudhessan, Sajina A.M., Anjana Ekka, Sangeetha M. Nair, and Canciyal Johnson, CIFRI competitors took home one silver medal. Dr. B. K. Das, Director of the Institute, was directly monitoring and supervising all sports players. To ensure the smooth running of the events, Dr. Dibakar Bhakta, the scientist, and Mr. Kausik Mondal, the technical assistant of the institute, have been designated as the Chief-De-Mission (CDM) and Manager of the CIFRI sports contingent, respectively.
