In his inaugural address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI stressed the need for fishers to learn about inland fisheries management to secure a sustainable livelihood. He urged fishers to use their available resources to maximize outputs and productivity. He also emphasised that each trainee should become a master trainer and train five to seven fishers of his neighbourhood.
The week-long training programme covered inland fisheries, and fish farming including pond management, induced breeding, composite fish farming, ornamental fisheries, enclosure culture, fish health management, and a general overview of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. Participants were also introduced to the Institute's Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS), ornamental hatchery units, and fish feed mill.
