Improving livelihood of tribal fisherfolks of Jharkhand through scampi fisheries enhancement

ICAR-CIFRI in active collaboration & funding support of DoF, Jharkhand has been involved in uplifting socioeconomic status of tribal fisherfolks fishing in Kelagagh reservoir, Simdega, Jharkhand through enhancing scampi (Maha Jhinga) fisheries in this reservoir with stocking of 4 lakhs scampi seeds on 27th Aug, 2024 where about 40 fishers of Kelagagh reservoir under four FCS took active part in stocking program amidst downpour. Dr H N Dwivedi, Director , DoF, Jharkhand along with Smt. Seema Toppo, DFO, Simdega took the prime role in this program with the inauguration of a floating pen installed in the main bay of the reservoir where the scampi seeds were released which are being protected from any untoward predatory fishes which have already been captured immediately after installing the floating pen. The whole program was well coordinated by Dr A K Das, PS & PI of the Scampi Project, Jharkhand & his team of ICAR -CIFRI under the able guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director of the Institute who are the custodian of implementing Scampi Fisheries Enhancement Project funded by DoF, Jharkhand in three reservoirs viz, Masaria in Gumla, Kelagagh in Simdega & Ghaghra reservoir in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand since September,2023 onwards targeting improved livelihood and nutritional security of tribal fisherfolks of Jharkhand thriving around the mentioned reservoirs.
