Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore stocked Pearl spot fish seeds in cages at Banasurasagar reservoir, Kerala and distributed fish feed under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) program

ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Bangalore conducted an awareness program on "Cage culture of fishes in reservoirs for enhanced fish production" to sensitize fishermen on the role of cage culture in enhancing fish production on 29 August 2024. About 50 tribal fishers, members of Banasurasagar ST-SC Fishermen Co-operative Society attended the program. The program was conducted successfully under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist & Head, Regional Centre, gave the presidential remarks and detailed on the role of ICAR-CIFRI in inland fisheries development. Mr. B. K. Sudheer Kishan, Joint Director of Fisheries, North Zone, Kerala, the Chief Guest of the program spoke on the role of co-operative societies for fisheries development in the state. Mr. Krishnan, Assistant Executive Engineer and Mr. Anil, Assistant Engineer, from Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Kerala addressed the participants and actively interacted with them on their various queries. Ms. Jesna P. K., Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI elaborated on prospects of cage culture in reservoirs. Ms. Akhisha, Technical Officer, Aquaculture Development Authority, Kerala, Officers from Fisheries Department, Govt. of Kerala and the officer-bearers of the co-operative society attended the program. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Ms. Jesna P. K., and co-coordinated by Dr. Vijaykumar, M. E., TO and Dr. V.L. Ramya, Scientist.
