Sensitization on fish disease surveillance and Plant 4 Mother campaign

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute has organized a one-day fish disease surveillance and health management awareness program under the NSPAAD phase II project funded by Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). Additionally, the stakeholders were sensitized to Plant 4 Mother under a national campaign.
Under the expert guidance of Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI, the program was conducted at East Kolkata Wetlands (EKWs), West Bengal, on 29th August 2024. The program, attended by 30 Assistant fisheries Official, Govt. of Orrisa, and 15 fishers of EKWs, covered a wide range of topics, including disease surveillance, health management, antimicrobial resistance issues, fish disease management, sustainable approaches for aquaculture development, and more. The team members of the NSPAAD phase II project also addressed the gathering, focusing on fish health and chemotherapeutic management and the negative effects of antibiotics and chemicals used in fish. The team also visited cultured facilities to sensitize the farmers about the importance of water quality and clinical signs of disease development and outbreak. Later, under a national campaign on Plant 4 Mother, 12 different plants of Mango, Guava, etc., were distributed and planted in the wetland area.
