Sensitization Program on Enhanced Fish Production in Openwaters and Distribution of Coracles under TSP

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre, Bangalore conducted a sensitization program on “Enhanced Fish Production in Openwaters” at Krishnagiri reservoir in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu on 03 September 2024 under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI. The program was conducted under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) and coracles were distributed to five tribal fishers including two women beneficiaries.

The program was attended by 50 fishers of Krishnagiri district. Dr. V. L. Ramya, Scientist welcomed the gathering and explained about the fisheries enhancement in inland waters. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Head, Regional Centre, presented the introductory remarks and emphasized on the role of reservoir fisheries in sustaining the livelihood of fishers. Mr. C. Subramani, Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Tamil Nadu was the chief guest on the occasion. Ms. Jesna P. K., Scientist spoke on the diversification of species in cage culture. Mr. K. Rathinam, Assistant Director of Fisheries and Mr. R. Kathirvel, Inspector of Fisheries, Department of Fisheries, Tamil Nadu spoke on the various schemes available in the department for fishermen. Fishermen actively interacted during the session. The program was coordinated by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Dr. V. L. Ramya and Ms. Jesna P. K.
