Mass awareness program on management of reservoir fisheries and distribution of crates and iceboxes under TSP at Chikilihole reservoir, Karnataka

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre, Bangalore conducted a “Mass awareness program on management of reservoir fisheries” at Chikilihole reservoir in Kodagu district, Karnataka on 25 September 2024 under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI. Crates and iceboxes were distributed under the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) to fifteen tribal fishers including two women beneficiaries.

The program was attended by 50 fishers of Kodagu district. Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Head, Regional Centre, presented the introductory remarks and spoke on reservoir fisheries management. Mrs. Milana K. Bharath, Assistant director, Department of Fisheries, Kodagu district, Karnataka elaborated on different developmental schemes by department of fisheries. Mr. Paramesh Kumar, Executive Officer, Taluk Panchayath, Somwarpet addressed the gathering. Dr. V. L. Ramya delivered a talk on species enhancement in reservoir fisheries management.

Mrs. Jesna P. K. spoke on prospects of culture based fisheries for sustainable fish production. The program was coordinated by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Dr. V. L. Ramya and Ms. Jesna P. K.
