Regional Centre of ICAR-CIFRI, Bangalore organized a field day and stocked fish fingerlings in Gayathri reservoir, Karnataka under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SC-SP) program

ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Bangalore conducted a field day to create awareness among fishermen on sustainable fisheries management on 30 September 2024, under the guidance of Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI. On this occasion 50,000 Labeo rohita fingerlings were stocked in Gayathri reservoir, Chithradurga district, Karnataka and crates were distributed to 20 fishers including seven women beneficiaries.

Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Principal Scientist & Head, Regional Centre, gave the introductory remarks and elaborated on reservoir fisheries management. Mr. Shrinivas S.T., Assistant Director of Fisheries, VV Sagar, Karnataka spoke on the fisheries development schemes of the state. Ms. Jesna P. K., Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI elaborated on cage culture in inland open waters and Dr. Vijaykumar, M. E., Technical Officer, emphasized on the livelihood improvement of fishers. About 50 fishers attended the field day. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Preetha Panikkar, Ms. Jesna P. K., Dr. Vijaykumar, M. E., and Dr. V. L. Ramya.
