Fostering Growth and Entrepreneurship: Women growers benefit from ICAR-CIFRI’s innovative training in ornamental fish culture under AINP-Ornamental

The Hands -on training on ornamental fish culture for entrepreneurship development” under AINP -Ornamental for women ornamental fish grower proved to be a valuable initiative in empowering participants with the necessary skill and knowledge to enhance their ornamental fish production practices. In the view of above context, ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organised 2 days Hands -on training on ornamental fish culture for entrepreneurship development for Balagadh, West Bengal from 24-25 March, 2025 with the aim of improving the skill and knowledge of ornamental fish women farmer in various aspects of ornamental fisheries.

In this training programme, fish culture, aquarium construction and management strategy of brooder maintenance and breeding of egg layer as well as live bearer ornamental fish in different culture unit have been explained. A total of 25 women ornamental fish farmer from Balagadh West Bengal participated in the training programme. Dr. B. K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI interacted with the women farmers and encouraged them to enhance their technical knowledge through the in-house training programme. The training programme focused on key area such as aquarium construction, setting of aquarium tank, setting of brooder tank for live bearer fish as well as egg layer fish including live fish food culture, feed construction and aquarium feed management through practical demonstration. The hands-on training has enlightened their concept and given ideas for developing brood stock and breeding for ornamental fish entrepreneurship in their respective areas.

Women fish farmers expressed their great satisfaction with the curriculum adopted for short training programme to sensitize ornamental fish farmer about the ornamental fish breeding and culture practices. Under the guidance of Director, ICAR-CIFRI the training programme was coordinated by Dr. Aparna Roy, I/C E & T Cell, Dr. Suman Kumari, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore with the able technical assistance by Sri Sujit Choudhury, Dr. Abhisek Saha, Sri Manbendra Roy, Dr. Shreya Bhattacharya, Mr. Pritam Paul and Mr. Ratan Das
