ICAR-CIFRI advances Model Village Initiative with Second Phase of Input Distribution in Haldarpara, Kultali ,Sundarbans under SBI-CSR project

The 2nd Phase of input distribution under the Model Village Development initiative was successfully organized by ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CIFRI) at Haldarpara, Kultali, Basanti Block, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The programme was implemented under the SBI-CSR project with the objective of enhancing livelihood opportunities and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices in rural communities.

During this phase, essential aquaculture inputs such as fish seed, feed, and other materials were distributed among the identified beneficiary farmers. ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore distributed 1200 kg seeds and 12 MT Cage grow Feed to the 100 beneficiaries of Haldarpara Kultali under SBI-CSR project.
The initiative aims to develop Haldarpara village as a model aquaculture-based livelihood hub through community participation, scientific guidance, and capacity building. Before the distribution a Officials from ICAR-CIFRI interacted with the fish farmers, emphasizing the importance of adopting improved fish culture practices for better productivity and income generation.
Before the 2nd phase seed distribution three off-campus training programmes were conducted at Kultali during 28-30 October, 2025 on small scale aquaculture Dr. B.K Das, Director,CIFRI chaired the valedictory session of the training programme and he distributed training completion certificate to the trainees. The main objective of this training programme was to imbibe as well as build the capacity of the Sunderban’s fish farmers in practising small scale aquaculture in the rainfed small water bodies available in their locality so that they can get an alternative livelihood option leading towards additional income generation. In the valedictory session of the programme, Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI congratulated all the trainees and elaborated about how this training programme could help in improving their livelihood through gaining knowledge and developing skill in various aspects of small scale aquaculture. Shri Lokman Molla, President. Kultali Milan Tirtha Society thanked Dr. B. K. Das, Director, CIFRI for organizing the training programme and for the initiative of Model Village Programme at Sundarbans. The event marked another step toward achieving the broader goal of rural empowerment through fisheries-based livelihood development under the SBI-CSR collaboration.
