Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Honourable Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare visited ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata, West Bengal

Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Honourable Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare visited ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata, West Bengal on 16 November, 2018. Dr. B. K. Das, Director welcomed him and briefed him about the various research and extension activities carried by the institute towards enhancing income and livelihood of inland fishers in India. The Director also informed him about the various technologies developed by this institute and its impact on increase in inland fish production from different parts of India.

While interacting with scientists and farmers, honourable minister stressed on the need to doubling farmer’s income through effective implementation of fisheries technologies developed by this institute.

He enlightened the house about the Rs. 3000 Crore Central sector scheme for blue revolution in India to give major thrust to promote marine and inland fisheries development and farming activities in India. He said that through various programmes of skill development, technology demonstration, dissemination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Government is working hard to achieve the target of doubling farmers income by 2022

Honourable Minister appreciated the work carries out by the institute and congratulated the institute for exceeding the revenue generation target and suggested the scientific community to work hard to generate more revenue.

Honourable Minister also inaugurated the skill development orientation training programme on “Inland Fisheries Management” national service volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra, West Bengal. Under this programme, one thousand volunteers are being skill trained on Inland fisheries. This programme is jointly organized by ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra, West Bengal.

The meeting was also attended by Shri Navin Nayak, Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andman & Nicobar Islands, senior officers of ICAR-CIFRI and Nehru yuva Kendra, Kolkata and Fish farmers of West Bengal
