ICAR-CIFRI CELEBRATED WORLD ANTIBIOTIC AWARENESS WEEK DURING 12TH TO 18TH NOVEMBERR 2018

World Antibiotic Awareness Week (AWWA) was observed at ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore as a part of “Antimicrobial Resistance in Fisheries and Aquaculture’ project” during 12th to 18th Nov. 2018. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. B.K.Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, in presence of Shri Navin Nayak, Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Section, research staffs of ICAR-CIFRI, Youths and Fish farmers of West Bengal. During the period, a series of awareness lectures on (a) Antibiotics, particularly used in aquaculture and fisheries, (b) Pathogens of importance in fish culture (c) Pattern of antibiotic resistance development (d) Use and misuse of antibiotics in fisheries was deliberated by Dr. B.K.Das, Director, Dr. A.K.Sahoo, PI and Dr. A.K.Bera, Co-PI of the project to students (35 no.) of College of Fisheries, Mangalore, youths (50 no.) and fish farmers (50no.) from West Bengal. Messages on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), depicted in the banners and posters were placed in different locations/areas for spreading the awareness among the local people and visitors.
