Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute (CIFRI), Regional Centre, Allahabad conducted ranching cum mass awareness program on 26 th November 2018 at Gayaram Pur Ghat Mirzapur at bank of river Ganga. The main aim of this programme was to increase awareness among stake holders on the various problems confronted by Ganga. 10000 wild IMC fingerling were released into the river Ganga at Ram gaya ghat, Mirjapur.
While welcoming to the learned panel and audience Dr DN Jha conveyed the commitment of the department in restoration of biodiversity of river Ganga, through conservation and rejuvenation ensuring livelihood of millions of fishers. Dr R.S. Shrivastava, acting Head of Allahabad Centre, ICAR-CIFRI has made a brief sketch of the mission of Namami Gange Program and its role to solve the deeper crisis developed in river Ganga during past decades. He explained the vision of NAMAMAMI GANGE as a total solution. The obstruction of flow of water in river through construction of Dams, industrial and sewage effluents adversely impacting the quality and quantity of water in river. Sustained flow of water fulfilling the demand of aquatic animal and drinking water of stakeholders could not be compromised on benefits whatsoever.
The Dr Varshi, Deputy Director, Fisheries emphasised on restoration and conservation of biodiversity in river Ganga. He advised fishermen community to join hand in Namami Gange Program for clean Ganga as this is the source of livelihood in true sense and also help in conservation through not allowing to kill the prospective brooders available in river Ganga particularly during breeding season. All other experts on panel and fishermen expressed similar opinion.
On this occasion the staff of CIFRI including scientist and research scholar had a “Ranching programme” and In this programme Dr D. N. Jha, Dr Venkatesh R Thakur, Dr Jeetendra Kumar, Dr Kalpana, Shri S. K. Srivastava, Shri S. R. Meena, Shri H.O.Verma, Shri S. K. Verma, Dr S. K. Mishra and Shri A. K. Pandey have participated and expressed their views.
