Up-scaling of knowledge through training for farmers of Jamui, Bihar was conducted at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore

A 7-days training programme for the farmers from Jamui district of Bihar was inaugurated by Dr. B.K Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI on 28 November, 2018 at ICAR-CIFRI Head Quarter, Barrackpore. A total of 25 fishers took part in the programme. While inaugurating the programme, Dr. B.K. Das invoked on the needs of skill development of the farmers on various facets of inland fisheries management to eradicate poverty and malnutrition in rural India ensuring their livelihood. The training module was framed after interacting with the farmers and the feedback received from the previous batches, which was refined accordingly. In Jamuipur district, there are plenty of water resources which could fetch livelihood of the farmers if utilized properly. So, there is an ample scope of livelihood improvement through development of inland fisheries in this district. In this training programme, ICAR-CIFRI is aiming at developing knowledge gap, skill and attitude of the farmers towards inland fisheries management. The programme contained sessions on fish feed management, disease management, soil and water chemistry, induced breeding, composite fish farming, ornamental fishery, cage culture, economic valuation of fish etc. followed by a feedback from the trainees at the end of the programme. There was arrangement for field trips to Balagarh, Kolkata and CIFA-Kalyani as well. The programme has been oriented to strengthen the practical skills of the farmers for enhancing the fish production in open waters including ponds & tanks, through on-field exposure visits and field demonstrations besides class room sessions. The training programme was l coordinated by Dr. Dr. Aparna Roy and co-coordinated by Mr. Shravan sharma and Ms. Sukanya Som, scientists, ICAR-CIFRI.
