Field Exposure visit is an integral part of any training programme. Through exposure visits trainees can glimpse various ongoing research activities in the field, farm as well as laboratories. Participants are also exposed to different equipment, instruments and techniques employed in research and development. The employees get opportunity to visit new places and institutes where they can meet people of same fraternity and exchange information. This can potentially act as a great motivational factor and bring inspiration to them in discharging their duties more efficiently and professionally. Organizing such visits becomes all the more important for SSS because unlike the past, capacity building of these staffs is now considered equally important like the other category of staffs.
Keeping this in view ICAR-CIFRI organized two days exposure visit for the twenty Seven Skill Support Staffs of it’s HQ to the other ICAR Institutes. On 16 th January, 2019 they visited ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (CSSRI), Canning Centre under the guidance of Dr. S.K Nag, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer, HRD. On reaching the centre, the staffs were cordially received by the Center Head Dr. D. Burman. After a brief introduction, Dr. Burman explained about the mandate and various research activities presently being carried out by the centre. They were then taken for visit to the Museum, various research fields, meteorological observatory etc. The participants were very enthusiastic and in joyous mood to visit and learn the things.
On 19 th January, 2019 Dr. Aparna Roy, Co-Nodal Officer, HRD arranged the exposure visit of SSS to ICAR-NDRI, Kalyani and ICAR-CIFA, Kalyani. In ICAR-NDRI, the staffs were happy to see the milking machines, cattle yard and fodder farm. Dr. Md. Asif, Scientist RRC NDRI, Kalyani gave an overview about the works done in the centre. The ICAR-CIFRI staffs interacted with the technical officer of RRC NDRI. Participants were then taken to the Regional station of CIFA, Kalyani. Dr. P.P. Chakraborty, center incharge explained the type of research and activities are performed by the station. He explained about the integrated fish farming and also taken them to the farm for hand on experiences. Dr. Chottopadhyay, CIFA gave an overview on Hilsa fish farming in captive condition. ICAR-CIFRI staffs were very much interested and excited by witnessing the works performed by the other sister organizations of ICAR. After the visit, a small feedback session was arranged. Almost all of them expressed their satisfaction and happiness for arranging these visits. They also feel that such type of exposure visits would help to enhance their knowledge and skill as well.
