Tribal Youth of Odisha trained in Inland Fisheries

ICAR- Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute organized a two days training for the 100 tribal youths of Sundergarh, Bargarh and Sambalpur districts of Odisha on “Fisheries as a livelihood option” from 23-03-19 to 24-03-19. Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI sensitized these youths on opportunities in fisheries sector (Opportunities in Government sector, Private sector and as entrepreneur). Tribal youths of these districts are undergoing one month training programme under “Bharat Scouts and Guide” in state HQ Bhubaneswar. For these youth’s fisheries as a livelihood option is an eye opening, as they were sensitized on different aspects of fisheries as income generation activity. Dr. Das explained in detail the different types of fish culture practices as per the resources availability. He also shared the different types of technology (Cage culture and Pen culture) available for fish production in wetlands and reservoirs. Dr. P. K. Parida, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI elucidated the different aspects of fish pond management for better fish production to the youths. The tribal youths clarified their doubts regarding fish management and opportunities in fisheries in the question answer session. On the second day of the training the youths were provided hands on training on Ornamental fish culture. The youth themselves prepared the aquarium during the hands on training. The different aquatic plants required and the other accessories required for aquarium making was also discussed with them in detail. The training was linked with an aquarium industry M/s M. R. Aquatics and voluntary organizations like Rotary Royal, who were also involved in this training programme. Besides these other dignitaries like former Chief Secretary Bijay Pattnaik; Mr. Kaliprasad Mishra, Chief Commissioner, Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides; Dr. Arun Kumar Nayak, State Commissioner, Bharat State Scouts and Guides and Mr. Nirjan Praharaj, President, Bhubaneswar goods Transport Association were also provided their valuable suggestion to the participants in the training.
