Training-cum-awareness programme on ‘Use of aquafeed for enhancing fish
production’ held at Darranggiri, Goalpara district, Assam on 10.05.19 under TSP
A training-cum-awareness programme on ‘Use of aquafeed for enhancing fish production’ was
organized by ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Guwahati in collaboration with Rubber Board,
Zonal Office, Guwahati at Darranggiri, Goalpara district, Assam on 10.05.19 under TSP of the
Institute. The programme was organized under the overall guidance and assistance of Dr. B.K.
Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore; Dr. B.K. Bhattacharjya, Head, ICAR-CIFRI, Regional
Centre, Guwahati and Dr. P.K. Parida, Coordinator, TSP programme, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore
and Shri Simanku Borah, Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Guwahati. The main
objective of the programme was to create awareness among rubber growers who are having
small ponds that can be utilized for additional income generation through scientific fish rearing.
The training-cum-awareness programme was inaugurated by Shri S. Selvaraj, Additional Rubber
Production Commissioner, Rubber Board, Zonal Office, Guwahati, who explained the
background of the programme. Additional income generation for rubber growers is need of the
hour and for this purpose, Rubber Board has collaborated with ICAR-CIFRI in organizing
training programmes on fisheries and aquaculture in the past also, he added. He urged the
participants to take utmost benefit in terms of technical knowledge from fisheries scientists of
ICAR-CIFRI. Dr. Sona Yengkokpam, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Guwahati
while welcoming the participants (25 no.) explained various integrated farming systems that can
be practiced by farmers including pisciculture for additional income generation. Under the tribal
sub-plan programme of ICAR-CIFRI, the Guwahati Centre of ICAR-CIFRI has organized many
training and awareness programmes in the past also for the benefit of tribal farmers, she added.
Dr. Dipesh Debnath, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Regional Centre, Guwahati discussed pond
preparation, stocking of fish seed, feeding and health management tips with the farmers and
urged them to take fish culture seriously so as to accrue benefits from the system. Fish culture
has been proven as the most economic farming practice among the agricultural farming systems,
he added, if better management practices are followed. Mrs. Ansamma George, ADO; Mr. Rajib
Basumatary, FO; Hemant Dutta, FA and Palendra, K. are the other officials of Rubber Board
who assisted in organizing the programme successfully.
On the occasion of the training-cum-awareness programme on ‘Use of aquafeed for enhancing
fish production’, ICAR-CIFRI has distributed nutritionally balanced floating fish feeds (25 bags
of 35 kg each) to the participants for creating awareness about feeding fish for maximizing profit
from the system.
