ICAR-CIFRI organized mid-term review meeting of ICAR Regional
Committee II
Mid-Term Review Meeting of ICAR Regional Committee-II (West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra
Pradesh, Telangana and UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands) was held at ICAR-Central Inland
Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore on 12 June 2019. The objective of the meeting was to
discuss the progress of action taken reports and recommendations made in 23 rd and 24 th
meetings of this Regional Committee, held at ICAR-NAARM and Institute of Management on
Agricultural Extension, Bhubaneswar, respectively. Around 60 participants from ICAR
Institutes, SAUs and State Agriculture/Animal husbandry/Horticulture/Fisheries Departments of
the states/UTs, including Vice Chancellors of BCKV, ANGRAU and seven Directors of ICAR
institutes and ADG (TC)-ICAR, participated in the review meeting.
Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI and Member Secretary welcomed all the delegates and gave
an overview of this region. He informed that states of this region are the major producers of a
number of crops like rice, potato, tobacco, jute, poultry, fishes, oil-palm, vegetables and flowers.
Dr. Joykrushna Jena, DDG (Fisheries Science Animal Science), chaired the meeting. He
emphasized that this meeting is an excellent platform of ICAR to reach out to various states for
solving their agricultural problems through innovative technology and tools. He highlighted the
importance of this region and its contribution in country’s food grain production and animal and
fishery resources. He stressed upon the importance of centre-state coordination for effective
technology transfer. He remarked that for fulfilling the dream of doubling farmers’ income, the
agricultural system should be properly planned with integration of animal husbandry, dairy and
fisheries.
In the meeting, the action taken reports of the 23 rd meeting was reviewed. Following this the
progress of action taken reports of the 24 th meeting was assessed. During the discussion, the
Chairman emphasized the need to promote farm implements suitable for small farms and women
farmers; development of appropriate resource conserving technologies; climate resilient varieties
of rice, pulses and oilseeds; minimizing post-harvest losses in horticultural crops; high density
plantation and peri-urban horticulture; dairy entrepreneurship; conservation of indigenous animal
breeds; efficient marketing system, etc. He requested all the Directors of ICAR institutes and
State Officials in this region to attend the mid-term meeting.
