CIFRI Awards
NFDB sponsored Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on ‘Management of floodplain wetlands for sustainable fisheries’ organized at ICAR-CIFRI Regional Centre, Guwahati during July 23-27, 2019.
Dr. P. Das, Scientist & Convener of ToT, ICAR-CIFRI welcomed dignitaries and participants in the inaugural programme. Dr. B. K. Bhattacharjya, Head of Centre & Coordinator of ToT urged the participants to get as much knowledge on the subject so that they are equipped to teach fellow fishers/ farmers on beel fisheries management. Shri P. K. Hazarika, Project Director, AFDC Ltd., Guwahati informed that the corporation will be investing in beel fisheries development and management of Assam. Shri N. C. Basumatary, ACS, Managing Director, AFDC Ltd., observed that beel fisheries of Assam have huge potential for fisheries enhancement. Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Former VC, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai and & Chairman, Technical Committee for National Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Policy, Govt. of India urged the participants to utilize time of the training programme and gain as much knowledge as possible. He emphasized that beel fisheries resources are not only important for fisheries purpose, but also for many ecosystem services that these beels offer to millions of people.
A one-day field visit to 47-Morakolong and Thekera beel at Morigaon district of Assam was organized for practical exposure to enclosure culture and fish stock enhancement technology in beel fisheries.
The valedictory programme was graced by Dr. H. C. Bhattacharyya, Former Director (Extension), AAU, Jorhat. Dr. Bhattacharyya urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training programme in their respective fields for sustainable increase of fish production. Mr. A. K. Yadav, Scientist & Co-convener of ToT thanked all the participants, resource persons and staff of the Centre for their whole-hearted participation and NFDB, Hyderabad for sponsoring the training programme.
A total of 29 participants including fishery officials, Beel Development and Management Committee members, academicians and entrepreneurs from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Manipur and Meghalaya participated in the programme.
