CIFRI Awards
A five day training programme on “Ornamental fish farming” for Tribal women of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha was successfully conducted at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore during 17th to 21st October 2019. The training programme was inaugurated by Dr. U.K.Sharkar, Head, RWF Division (I/C, Director) in presence of Dr. B.P.Mohanty, Head FREM, Dr. V.R.Suresh Head (I/C) REF Division and all the research staffs and Team members of the training programme. Total of 40 tribal women were trained and successfully demonstrated on ornamental fish seed production, feeding and transportation of fishes in the Aquarium and Hatchery unit of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. A field visit to Gallif street, Kolkata, Dasnagar market and Amtala was organized to provide an exposure to the economic demand and supply of the ornamental fishes, daily maintenance and culture of the specific ornamental fish viz. fighter fish Betta splendens. At the end of the training programme, an exercise was made to access the knowledge gained and practical utility of the programme. It was recorded that, all the women were satisfied with the training programme and underlined for a longer period of training programme for the future. The programme was carried out under the guidance of Dr. B.K.Das, Director and by the team members (Coordinators, Co-coordinators, Technicals and supporting staffs of Aquarium and Hatchery unit).
