CIFRI Awards
ICAR-CIFRI inaugurated a 5 days Training of Trainers (ToT) programme on “Reservoir Fisheries Management for Employment Generation” funded by National Fisheries Development Board, at the Institute on 23rd November 2019. Professor B. C. Mal, Vice Chancellor, JIS University, West Bengal graced the function as Chief Guest of the programme.
Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, welcomed all the participants to the training. He highlighted importance of reservoir fisheries in the country and briefly outlined emerging issues stressing inland open waters like plastic pollution, use of drugs, resistance etc. He hoped that the training will be useful for skill development of the trainees on reservoir fisheries management. He appealed the participants to effectively disseminate the scientific technologies at the field level for enhancement of fish production and livelihood of fishers.
Dr U. K. Sarkar, Head, Reservoir and Wetland Fisheries Division, and Coordinator training expressed happiness over participation of the stakeholders from different part of the country. He briefed the trainees about curriculum of the training emphasizing on importance of individual modules. He remarked that through the ICAR-CIFRI’s technological interventions the productivity of the reservoirs can be increased significantly.
Dr. B. C. Mal, Vice Chancellor, JIS University and chief guest of the function congratulated the Institute for organizing the training and shared his experience and knowledge on fisheries and aquaculture engineering aspects with trainees and motivated them to take active part in training.
Dr B. P. Mohanty, Head, Fisheries Resource Environment Management Division and Dr. S. Samanta, Head, Riverine Ecology and Fisheries Division also addressed the trainees and thrusted upon the need for sustainable fisheries management of reservoir ecosystems for doubling fishers income.
Dr. A.K. Das, In-Charge Extension and Training Cell in his remarks outlined the objective of the training and the importance of Reservoir fisheries management for enhancing fish production from inland open waters.
In this occasion a book on “Reservoir Fisheries Management for Employment Generation” covering different aspects of reservoir fisheries and enhancement strategies was released by the dignitaries.
The training is being attended by 20 participants from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and New Delhi representing State Fisheries Departments, Entrepreneurs, Farmers, Scholars and Scientists. The staff of ICAR-CIFRI also attended the inaugural programme. Mr. Mishal P, Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.
