Ranching of advanced fingerling in the Ganga river at Prayagraj.

5000 Advanced fingerling seeds of Indian Major Carp (IMC) were released in the Ganga river at Sangam Nose, Prayagraj on 20th June 2020. The Programme was organized by ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute Allahabad under Namami Gangae to restore and conserve the depleting fish species. Dr D. N. Jha, Scientist in-charge of Centre explained the importance of ranching in detail to the gathered audience and suggested fishermen community not to catch the brooder of IMC during breeding period. He also informed the audience about the work done by ICAR-CIFRI to conserver and restore important fishes of the Ganga river. Dr. Absar Alam, Scientist, welcomed the guest, in the beginning of the program and briefed about the ranching programme. Irafannulh Khan, Fishery Inspector from Fishery Department, U.P. was the chief guest on the occasion. He briefly described about the fish and fishes of the Ganga river and government scheme related to fishermen. Special guest of the function Shri Rajesh Sharma, Co-ordinator, Ganga Vichar Manch / Namami Gange highlighted the role of NMCG and work under taken in Namami Gangae Programme. Mr. R. K. Tiwari alias Dukanji, brand ambassador of Swachchhata of Nagar Nigam was present and he sensitized the audience about pollution free Ganga and importance of Ganga for the existence of civilization. Other scientist of the institute expressed their view and told about the importance of fishes for the river Ganga and for fishermen community.

The event was attended by officials from Ganga Vichar Manch. Wildlife Institute of India, the pilgrimage of Sangam, WII, Fisheries Dept. Uttrar Pradesh, Student of nearby colleges, fishers of nearby villages, fish traders and local people living on the bank of the Ganga. Dr Venkatesh Thakur, Scientist, gave vote of thanks at the end of the program. The programme was addressed and attended by Dr. Monika Gupta (Scientist), Dr Jeetendra Kumar , (Scientist), Dr Kalpana Srivastva, Dr Hari Om Verma, Dr Sandeep Kumar Mishra, Mr. Sushil Kumar Verma, Mr Amit Pandey, Miss. Jahanara and other staff of CIFRI Allahabad.
