International Women’s Day was celebrated at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore on 8 th March, 2018.
Director-in- charge along with Heads of Divisions, Chairperson, Women Cell, Member
Secretary- Women Cell and Member Secretary-Women Complaint Cell occupied the dais and
spoke about the importance of International Women’s Day and the role of women especially in
fisheries. The Women cell and Women complaint cell of the institute together organized a talk
on ‘Outstanding Women Scientists –Brief introduction’ by Mrs. Tanuja Abdulla, Scientist of
ICAR-CIFRI and a brain storming session on ‘Women in fisheries’ on the occasion. In brain
storming session all the staff of ICAR-CIFRI actively participated and raised various issues such
as safety of women, means of reduction of their drudgery, awareness for cleanliness, need to
improve their knowledge and skills in fisheries related activities, institutional arrangements for
women empowerment in fisheries sector and importance of their participation in development of
fisheries policies and decision making.
