ICAR-CIFRI organized a mass awareness cum farmer scientist interface programme at Sagar Island, Sunderban on 26th October, 2017 involving tribal fishers from three villages under Tribal Sub Plan. Mass awareness on inland fisheries management by scientific approach for improving livelihoods was created through discussion and interaction of scientists of ICAR-CIFRI and fishers. On the occasion Dr. Panjab Singh, Former DG, ICAR interacted with tribal fishers. Other dignitaries, Dr. S. Raizada, ADG, Inland Fisheries, ICAR; Dr. P. K. Agarwal, ADG, NASF, ICAR; Dr. R. T. Patil, Former Director, ICAR-CIPHET; Dr. R. Tuli, Former Director ICAR-IISS; Dr. C. L. Acharya, Former Director, ICAR-NBRI and Dr. B. K. Das, Director, IACR-CIFRI were also present on the occasion and gave their valuable inputs and suggestions to the fishers.

Ms. Anita Maity, Chairperson, Sagar Panchyat Samiti welcomed the participants and appreciated the TSP activity of ICAR-CIFRI in Sagar Island.

Former DG, ICAR advised the farmers to follow the guidelines and suggestions given by ICAR scientists for the improving the farming system for better livelihoods and posterity. Dr. Raizada highlighted the role of scientific fish farming as profitable employment opportunity.
