Four days training programme has organized in the institute for 28 tribal fishers/fish farmers of Gardanmari,Bhatar, Burdwan District,West Bengal during 31 October to 3 November, 2017. The fishermen are members of a cooperative society named Gardanmari Adibasi Dighi Unnayan Samiti, which was formed in 2014 for developing fisheries in Gardanmari Dighi (wetland). A need assessment session was organized at the beginning of the training to identify the needs of the farmers. Based on that a stuctured schedule for training was developed entitled ‘Utilization of derelict waters for socio-economic development of tribal fishers’. The fishers/fish farmers were trained on various aspects of inland fisheries management including feeding, disease managemnt, wetland fisheries etc. The practical classes have also been arranged. A field exposure visit has also been arranged for the trainees. The inagaural session of the training programme was chaired by Dr. B.K Das, Director, CIFRI in which Prof. R.K Trivedi, Professor, WBUA&FS was also present as special guest. Prof. Trivedi complemented the institute for this training programme, which is organized for the marginalized section. The training programme is being coordinated by Dr. P.K Parida, Scientist & Nodal Official TSP, Dr. Aparna Roy,Scientist and Dr. Lianthumluaia.
