ICAR-CIFRI organized training on Concept Building and Basic Statistical Analysis for Inland Fisheries Management
A training program on “Concept Building and Basic Statistical Analysis for Inland Fisheries
Management” was organized at ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, during 3 rd -10 th August 2018. The
participants comprised of practitioners in inland fisheries, including scientists, Assistant
professors, students and scholars. Programme was inaugurated by the Director, ICAR-CIFRI
and Convener of Training program Dr. B. K. Das in the presence of Chief Guest Dr. K. K.
Krishnani, Principal Scientist, CIFE, Mumai. All the participants and resource persons of
training were present in the inaugural function along with all Head of Divisions, scientists,
research scholars and other staffs of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore. At the outset, Dr. R. K.
Raman, Scientist cum coordinator of training, welcomed all and Dr. M. Naskar, Principal
Scientist cum coordinator of training, enlightened briefly about training to the participants.
Dr. B. K. Das elaborated importance of training program and use of statistics & statistical
tools, which was the need of the hour. The Chief Guest of the function described about the
use and significance of statistics for research with examples. All the HODs expressed their
views on requirement of this training for researchers in the field of fishery science. At the end
of programme Dr. D. N. Jha, Scientist cum co-coordinator of training, formally offered vote
of thanks to all for their participation. During training program participants gained the
knowledge on how to collect quality data for open waters, how to build up basic concepts of
statistics for prudent application in inland fisheries data. They were trained to use different
software viz. Excel, R, SPSS and SAS for analysis of collected data and how to make
interpretation for better management of open water resources.
At the end of training, valedictory function was organised on 10 th August 2018. On this event
all the participants were welcomed by Dr. R. K. Raman and Mr. A. K. Yadav presented brief
report about training program including impact of training on the participants. Dr. B. K. Das,
Director cum convenor, addressed and persuaded the participants for their feedback regarding
training. Maximum participants gave their feedback with a request to conduct more training
programme of longer duration. Dr. D. N. Jha gave a vote of thanks to all for their cooperation
in successful organisation of training program.
